Description
Dark Opal Purple Basil is a dark, fragrant beauty with its glossy, deep black-purple leaves that shimmer with iridescence in bright light, plum-colored stems, and edible violet flower spikes that make a spectacular garnish. A 1962 All-America Selections Winner! This annual basil plant produces extremely fragrant dark purple leaves. It can be used as a garnish or to make flavored vinegars. This basil drys excellently and is very easy to grow. Gardening in a small space or wanting to use a container? This variety grows great in them!Ā
Use it to add sweet, intense anise flavor and a dreamy purple color to pesto or bruschetta, or mix it into a moody Caprese salad with Black Krim Tomatoes.
Harvest the leaves and stems from the top part of the plant, and pinch off edible flower buds as they appear, which prevents the leaves from turning bitter, and signals the plant to branch out and grow more leaves, making a bushier plant.Ā
The more you harvest, the more it grows!Ā

OUR PLEDGE TO YOU
Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations.
For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative. We pledge to you that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants.Ā The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms, poses great biological risks as well as economic, political, and cultural threats.
We wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately healthy people and communities.
We do not buy - OR - grow any seed from large corporations that make Genetically Engineered seeds. Ā We don't touch that stuff and we never will.
The seeds we offer aren't like varieties you'd typically find at a garden center.Ā
Every variety we offer is 100%Ā OP (open-pollinated).Ā Open-pollinationĀ means that you can safely save the seed after harvest and preserveĀ a collection of heirloom seed for many generations to come.
To make it perfectly clear ...Ā Our seeds do not contain any exogenously inserted embryogenesis deactivator genes caused by human intervention.
